Node 24 runs .ts files directly — but only erasable syntax (no enum, namespace, or parameter properties)
Node 24 strips TypeScript types and runs .ts with no build step, but syntax that needs transformation fails with ERR_UNSUPPORTED_TYPESCRIPT_SYNTAX. Typecheck separately with tsc --noEmit.

What works (reproduced)
node app.ts runs TypeScript directly: type annotations are stripped, with no warning and no build output.
What fails
Syntax that needs code generation, not just type erasure:
enumnamespacewith runtime code- constructor parameter properties (
constructor(private x: number))
An enum stopped with ERR_UNSUPPORTED_TYPESCRIPT_SYNTAX.
Setup that keeps you inside the lines
// tsconfig.json
{ "compilerOptions": {
"noEmit": true,
"erasableSyntaxOnly": true, // tsc rejects enum/namespace/param properties
"verbatimModuleSyntax": true, // use `import type` for types
"allowImportingTsExtensions": true, // write `./x.ts` in relative imports
"module": "nodenext" } }
- No typechecking at run time: Node does not typecheck. Run
tsc --noEmitas your build or CI gate. - Process managers may guess wrong: PM2 6 picks the
buninterpreter for.tsscripts. Setinterpreter: "node"explicitly.
